MUNICIPAL ORDINANCE FOR THE USE AND EXPLOITATION OF BEACHES

(Published in BOIB number 107 on the 3rd of August, 2004)

In the municipality of Ciutadella, a municipal ordinance on beaches is in force that regulates the activities that can be carried out, with the purpose of protecting public health and the environment.

For that reason, in Ciutadella's beaches the following is not allowed:

To throw or to deposit rubbish on beaches or in the sea.

The presence of animals on beaches during the bathing season.

To fish from rocks and submarine fishing in the surroundings of the beach during the bathing season.

To drive or park vehicles on the beach.

To camp on the beach throughout the whole year regardless of the time.

To light a fire on beaches throughout the whole year.

To drive boats in the zone marked out with buoys for bathing.

The beaching or anchorage of boats outside the designated zones.

Street selling, as well as any other activity lacking municipal authorisation.

The collection of any species of flora or fauna.

A series of penalties are regulated that can reach up to 3,000 ? depending on the degree of seriousness.

In Tourist Information Centres of the municipality, ecological ash trays are available to avoid to throwing cigarette butts on beaches. Ask for yours.

Rubbish containers are found at beaches. Please use them.

In the case that a rubbish container is not available at some bathing areas, please pick up your rubbish and deposit it at the closest rubbish bin.
